Thursday 3 October is National Poetry Day. The theme this year is ‘Water’. During the summer, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust had the great pleasure of welcoming the excellent Wendy Cope O.B.E. to be our Writer in Residence. She was invited to write three poems: one on Shakespeare, one on Literary Festivals (we held our 60th Stratford-upon-Avon Poetry Festival this year), and one on a subject of her choice. At the end of her residency (in association with The Hosking Houses Trust for women writers), Wendy graciously and presented us with five poems.

Today we have the pleasure of making these available as an e-book, By the River, which is available free by clicking here. We hope that you enjoy sending it to your friends, family, and contacts.

Below are sound recordings of Wendy reading poems from the book.

Happy National Poetry Day!
