You might like to listen to Paul Edmondson’s lecture on Startford-upon-Avon 1616
Paul Edmondson’s lecture starts with Shakespeare’s funeral and the funeral monuments in Holy Trinity Church. He thinks about Shakespeare’s life and reputation as they might have seemed to his contemporaries, and how his afterlife began even as people left the church after his funeral. A version of this talk has just been published for The Arden Shakespeare in 1616: Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu’s China, edited by Tian Yuan Tan, Paul Edmondson, and Shi-pe Wang (Bloomsbury, 2016).
