Nick Walton on Glen Byam Shaw – an SBT Lunchtime Event

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s own Nick Walton will deliver the second lunchtime lecture of the season at 1pm on this upcoming Wednesday, 23 March. Nick will be using his 2008 essay on director Glen Byam Shaw, published in John Russell Brown’s collection of essays, The Routledge Companion to Directors’ Shakespeare, as a way into the anthology as a whole. Nick will also welcome questions pertaining to any of the directors discussed in the book, paying particular attention to the various ways in which directors approach their craft.

On hand will be some of the papers and notebooks of Glen Byam Shaw from which Nick worked to write his piece for John Russell Brown, which are normally housed in the archives of the SBT.

Tickets will be available on the door for £4.00 (£3.50 student concession / £3.00 Friends of the SBT).

The Routledge Companion to Directors’ Shakespeare is ‘a major collaborative book about plays in performance. Thirty-one authoritative accounts describe in illuminating detail how some of theatre’s most talented directors have brought Shakespeare’s texts to the stage’. Notable entries include: Ingmar Bergman, Peter Brook, Peter Hall, Orson Welles, and Franco Zeffirelli. Copies of the anthology will be available for purchase at a special discounted rate!
