  • And along that line allow me to recommend William Slights’ *Ben Jonson and the Art of Secrecy.*  I’ve not read a better book on Jonson. There may be a better book to be written, but so far it hasn’t appeared.

  • There is no doubt that Ben Jonson’s genius has been underestimated, in large measure due to a prevailing ideology, which continues to view him either as uncontrollably envious of Shakespeare, or as “honest Ben” who would never even imagine writing something that wasn’t transparently true. Ha!
