“All the [reviews] that are fit to print…”

In 2004 Will Sharpe – former part-time employee of The Shakespeare Bookshop – began a quarterly publication which would review the latest pages of the heavy scholarship and popular books on Shakespeare that were released within the previous three months. The Shakespeare Bookshop Newsletter was issued an ISSN, gradually built up a readership, and seven years on will be celebrating its 20th issue-iversary this coming March!

One of the many features on this internationally-distributed periodical is the occasional author interview that allows our readers to come to understand how various projects began, as well as to have an inside look into the challenges of writing and publishing scholarship. Past interviews include Professors Helen Cooper, David Crystal, Jonathan Bate, and Stanley Wells, all of whom kindly agreed to share with us exclusive insight into their writing processes.

I have recently been given the task of compiling the newsletters for the foreseeable future, and I look forward to bringing the publication to a wider audience. If you would like genuine reviews of the latest books in the field, then I strongly encourage you all to send your name and e-mail address to bookshop@shakespeare.org.uk so that we can put you on our distribution list.
